DSC Power Series Programming Guide

DSC programming Guide

for Power Series 1616,1832,and 1864

There are hundreds of program sections for these DSC Security Systems that regularly confuse people and get them lost in setting up their own systems. The fact is though, that only a handful of locations are necessary for the basic setup of these systems.

After you have the system wired up as needed, plug in the power transformer and backup battery. If you need assistance with the wiring, see our wiring guide also available here on HomeSecurityGuys.org

Please be advised that only the model 5500 keypad is really useful for viewing most program data and even that can be confusing to some people. That said though, you do not need a 5500 pad to program the system. If you follow our instructions outlined in this document and don’t pay attention to what the keypad says, you will be up and going in a short time.

*8 is the command to go into programming and 5555 is the default program access (not to be confused with the default master code which is 1234)  code to gain entry to programming for all of these Power Series security systems. If you press *8 5555 and hear one long tone, it means you’ve entered the code, Press ## and try again with a different code. Where ever you may be in programing you can hit # three times to totally exit from programming.

  • Press *8 5555 then 001 then you will add your Zone definitions starting at Zone 1 and continuing until you’ve reached your last zone if you are only using 16 zones or less, (for 17 or more you would program the definitions in section 002) Example: if you have three zones, 1 is an entry door, 2 is your back door, and three is a motion, you would press *8 5555 – 001 – 01 – 03 – 05 then you would press # one time to return to the “enter program section” menu so you can proceed to the next step.

001 is the section where the zone definitions are stored for the first 16 zones, whereas the two digit data that follows is the zone definition. 01 is an entry delay, 03 is an instant and 05 is a stay/away motion. These are the most popular, but see your manual for a complete list of two digit zone definitions.

  • Press 202 to shut off unused zones by hitting the number you wish to turn off (if you’re using less than 8 zones) Now press # one time to return to the “enter section” menu. Section 202 controls zones 1 thru 8, 203 controls zones 9 thru 16, 204 controls zones 17 thru 24 and so on. By default, the first 8 zones are enabled. If you are using less than 8 zones you go into 202 to turn off unused zones. Conversely, if you are using more than 8 zones, you’ll have to go into 203, 204, etc. to turn on additional zones.

  • Press 005, then 01 to select entry exits for partition 1 if you want change the Entry/Exit delay times from their default settings of 30 seconds. So say you have two entry doors 1 needs delayed 45 seconds and 2 needs delayed 60 seconds you would enter 005 – 01 – 045060030 the ( 01 ) after the ( 005 ) just means that you’re programming the times in partition 1. If you were programming partition 2 you would press 02. – There are three times you are entering here, each with a three digit value. Entry delay 1, entry delay 2 and exit delay, which is the time the system gives you to leave the premises after arming.  We used 30 seconds for the demonstration above. After you have entered the data in the section hit # once to exit this area and then enter your next program section.

  • Press 006 to change your installer code from the default setting of 5555 and just enter 4 new digits, after the 4th digit you should hear a triple beep, that will bring you back to the “enter section” menu.
  • Press 007 to change your master code from the default setting of 1234 and just enter 4 new digits, after the 4th digit you should hear a triple beep, that will bring you back to the “enter section” menu.
  • Press 009 If you’re using smoke detectors then press 00 to skip past PGM-1.  if it’s 2 wire type smoke, press 04, if it’s a four wire type press 03 then you should hear a triple beep, that will bring you back to the “enter section” menu.
  • Press 013 If you did Not use resistors, then press 1 to turn toggle option 1 on, then press # one time to return to the “enter section” menu.
  • Press 015 If you did Not hook a telephone line to the system, then press 7 to turn off toggle option 7, then press # one time to return to the “enter section” menu.
  • Now press # – 3 times to take you out of programming and to return to the main screen. You should have a Green checkmark.
  • Now press *6 to set the time, next enter you master code, then press 1 you will enter the four digit time in 24 hour format (military time) then enter the six digit date example: 102108 if it was Oct. 21st. 2008

As far as basic programming you are done.

To create user codes

* 5 – master code – 01 – new four digit code (if more than one) then 02 and four digit then 03 then four digit etc.

To program a Keyfob

*8 5555 804 – 41 – ESN number and for a second keyfob             42 – ESN – and so on……..

to make Panic on keyfob audible

*8 installer code  -  015   turn 2 on by pressing #2

Wireless programming

*8 5555 – 804 – zone # (ex.01) – “S” number – #……

zone # – ESN – #…….

zone # – ESN – #

*note* You will want to enter the “S” number exactly how it is on the transmitter including the Stars (ex. 123*2*45)

Next set your zone definition in zone programming just like you would for a hardwired zone.

Then you would go 100 above zone number, example: zone 8, you would go into section 108 and turn on toggle option 8, make sure to turn on option 8 in every one of the wireless zones attributes, or the wireless transmitter will not work.

That’s it for now. We are going to hone this quickstart guide as time permits to make it as user frindly as possible.
